Hillcats tamed by Keys’ ace Matusz

The Hillcats missed out on facing Orioles top pitching prospect Brian Matusz when the Frederick Keys were in Lynchburg a month ago. They weren’t so lucky in their trip to Maryland.

Matusz, the No. 4 overall pick in last year’s draft, struck out nine and allowed four hits and three runs in a 9-5 Keys win Wednesday at Harry Grove Stadium.

Keys shortstop Pedro Florimon Jr. went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, triple, three RBIs and three runs.

Hillcats pitcher Harrison Bishop was touched up for five runs on four hits in two relief innings. Frederick (18-21) broke it open with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Myles Durham hit a solo home run in the fourth for Lynchburg (25-14).

The two teams face off again tonight at 7 p.m.
