WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem starter Aaron Poreda shut down the Hillcats for the second time in a week in the Warthogs’ 4-2 win Monday.
Poreda (3-2), the White Sox’ No. 1 pick out of the University of San Francisco last year, threw six shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out five for the win. He threw seven innings of one-hit ball against Lynchburg (15-21) last Tuesday.
The Warthogs (15-17) scored all of their runs against Hillcats starter Jared Hughes (1-5). Lee Cruz hit a two-run single in the fourth that made it 4-0.
Hughes lasted 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits.
Both of Lynchburg’s runs came on Alex Presley’s first home run of the year in the seventh.
Ryan Rote pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.
The teams play the second of a four-game series tonight at 7 p.m. Michael Crotta (3-2, 3.25 ERA) takes the mound for the Hillcats against Matt Zaleski (0-1, 5.28).
