LC’s Weir scores two goals, five short of NCAA record

The Lynchburg College field hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit against visiting St. Mary’s (Md.) with four unanswered goals, three of which came in the last 12 minutes as the 14th ranked Hornets improved to 7-2 on the season.

“We were a little sluggish at the beginning,” Lynchburg coach Enza Steele said. “But we came through at the end again. Sometimes I think we take our opponents for granted. We just need to play hard.”

LC’s senior attack Allie Weir scored a pair of goals to put her career total at 115, just five goals behind the Division III leader for goals, Pricilla Wade. Weir’s first goal tied the match at 2-2 in the 58th minute. Jordan Warrington had the assist.

Just over 10 minutes later and with 1:50 left to play, Jenny Weir scored off of an assist by her sister Allie to give LC its first lead 3-2.

Allie Weir scored her second goal of the match in the final minute to give the Hornets a 4-2 win. Lindsay Leonard had LC’s first goal. Lynchburg faces Wesley College at 1 p.m. today.

and then returns to action next Saturday against Sweet Briar at 1 p.m.
