Liberty in BracketBusters

For the second time in three years, Liberty will be a part of ESPN’s BracketBusters event, which features mid- and low-major basketball teams from around the country, ESPN announced Thursday.

The Flames are one of three Big South teams involved in the event. Winthrop and Gardner-Webb are the others. Winthrop will host a game either Feb. 20 or 21, and Liberty and Gardner-Webb will go on the road for the event.

Liberty’s last BracketBusters appearance was in 2006, when it lost to Niagara.

As a part of the deal, whomever Liberty draws in the event will play the Flames in the Vines Center during the 2009-10 season.

Thirteen BracketBuster games will be televised on ESPN’s family of networks.
