A former school administrator accused of murdering his wife and staging the scene to look like a suicide is scheduled to appear before a Bedford judge Monday.
Wesley Brian Earnest, 37, of Moneta, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
His wife, Jocelyn Branham Earnest, was found dead Dec. 20 from a gunshot wound to the head. According to search warrants filed in the case, Wesley Earnest owned the gun found at the scene of her death.
Earnest is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Bedford Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for his preliminary hearing.
After the hearing, a judge will decide whether there is probable cause to believe Earnest committed the crime. If so, the case would be scheduled to be heard by a Bedford County grand jury, which would determine whether it would proceed to trial.
Wesley Earnest is a former assistant principal at Heritage High School. He was working as an assistant principal at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake when he was arrested in February.
He has hired Joseph Sanzone to represent him Monday.
Earnest has been held in the Bedford Adult Detention Center since his late February arrest.
