The Greater Lynchburg Transit Company board is expected to begin debating alternate methods of service for the Daniel’s Hill neighborhood later this month.
Prior service to Daniel’s Hill made use of the D Street bridge, which was closed to traffic earlier this year due to disrepair. Buses have not stopped in the area since then, drawing protests from residents.
On Wednesday, GLTC General Manager Mike Carroll said he plans to propose a stopgap solution to his board of directors later this month. The suggestions would first go to committee, and then be taken to the full board in September at the earliest.
Possible measures include implementing a shuttle service from Daniel’s Hill to other nearby bus stops. An on-demand service that would require residents to arrange pickups in advance has also been discussed.
Daniel’s Hill generates, on average, 17 bus trips a day, according to GLTC. It was not immediately clear how the company would pay for any special service to the area.
The D Street bridge is slated for replacement. That process is expected to take at least two years.
