Two more teens accused of participating in the April robbery and shooting of a Campbell Avenue gas station clerk have been charged in connection with another robbery a week prior.
Lynchburg prosecutors believe the first robbery netted the cash to buy the gun used in the Citgo shooting. The man accused of buying the gun also has been charged.
Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Felmlee said Damontez Hubbard, 15, and Jonathan Jackson, 18, now stand charged with three counts each of robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Those charges stem from the April 16 armed robbery of the Sunshine Market on Pollard Street.
Jackson and Hubbard also are scheduled to go to trial Sept. 15 on charges of aggravated malicious wounding, robbery and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony in connection with the April 24 robbery of the Citgo gas station and convenience store on Campbell Avenue.
Jackson also is charged with wearing a mask in public. Felmlee said Jackson carried a sawed-off shotgun in the Citgo robbery.
During that incident, clerk Abderrahin Elfilali was shot in the head by 20-year-old Kionne Pulley.
Pulley, the man prosecutors say was the mastermind of both robberies, pleaded guilty to shooting Elfilali on July 28 and could be sentenced to life in prison on Sept. 19.
Elfilali survived the shooting but suffered permanent brain damage and will never be able to live without supervision and care, Felmlee said in an earlier hearing.
Jacob Hudson, 17, the getaway driver in both the Citgo and Sunshine robberies, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery and one count of aggravated malicious wounding on July 25.
Hudson’s sentencing date has not been set.
Prosecutors said Hudson used his take from the Sunshine Market robbery to pay for the Hi-Point .40-caliber pistol Pulley used in the Citgo shooting. Neither Pulley nor Hudson is old enough to buy a handgun in Virginia.
Shane Alexander Meade, 21, was charged last week with making a materially false statement during the purchase of a firearm, a felony that carries as much as 10 years in prison. Felmlee said he believes Meade bought the gun for Hudson at Petrey’s Guns and Hardware on Lakeside Drive the day after the Sunshine Market robbery.
No court dates have been scheduled for the new charges as of Monday.
