The McCain-for-President campaign is rolling out the un-welcome mat for Democrat Barack Obama, who's stumping in Virginia today and tomorrow, talking about jobs and the economy.
Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and McCain policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin told reporters in a conference call this afternoon that Obama's proposals rely on higher taxes and additional government spending -- and that's bad for Virginia.
As Bolling, whose first choice for the Republican nomination was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, now a prospect for vice president, put it, "More taxes and government spending are a formula for disaster."
Obama's two-day swing opened this morning in Martinsville, a textile-and-furniture hub hit hard by the exodus of manufacturing jobs overseas. This evening, Obama is in Lynchburg.
Tomorrow, he'll be in Chester, outside Richmond, before his final stop, the fast-growing Hampton Roads suburb of Chesapeake.
Bolling ducked questions on whether Obama will select Gov. Timothy M. Kaine as his vice-presidential running mate. Bolling would succeed Kaine if the Democrat did not complete his term.
