VIRGINIA TECH REPORT: Macho MIA

»  Comments | Post a Comment

HALFTIME THOUGHTS
Virginia Tech should feel very fortunate to be winning this game 14-7 right now.

Bud Foster’s defense, again, is bailing out the offense. Quarterback Sean Glennon has two interceptions, though in his defense, he is playing with a group of inexperienced receivers that are all having hard times getting open.

Richard Graham manned right tackle for most of the first half. Blake DeChristopher suffered a right thigh bruise on the first series and hasn’t been back on the field yet.

The Hokies’ defense has been strong. Cornerback Stephan Virgil, who made his first career start today, returned a fumble 30 yards for a score to get the Hokies on the scoreboard.

Eight true freshman have already played for Tech – wide receivers Xavier Boyce and Jarrett Boykin, LBs Jake Johnson, Bruce Taylor and Quillie Odom, cornerback Eddie Whitley and safety Lorenzo Williams.

Running back Kenny Lewis Jr. won’t give up the starting job easily. He has 38 yards on five carries (7.6 per carry) and had a 35-yard kickoff return to start the game.

PREGAME
Greetings from Bank of America Stadium in beautiful Charlotte, N.C.

For those hoping for a miraculous recovery for Tech defensive back Macho Harris (sprained left foot), hope no more. I've been informed by a Tech sports information spokesperson that he didn't make the trip.

Check back soon for more thoughts and observations from Charlotte.
