Three months after the death of an infant transported to Bedford Memorial Hospital, investigators are still waiting for more information before deciding whether to pursue criminal charges.
The Bedford Police responded to the hospital on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. “in reference to a deceased infant,” a news release issued at the time said.
The baby’s body was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke for a determination as to the cause and manner of the infant’s death.
Lt. Jim Bennett, of the Bedford Police Department, said this week investigators are still waiting on results from the medical examiner’s office.
“I’m sure they want to be very thorough,” he said. “Anytime an infant dies they want to be very thorough.”
The infant was less than one year old. The baby’s name, gender and precise age are not being made public, pending the autopsy results.
