Amherst
- The following Amherst County fourth-graders were first-place winners in The Alliance for Families and Children’s ‘Why My Family is Special’ essay contest: Angelica Lovelace of Amelon Elementary, Robert Elliott of Amherst, KIrsten Sexton-Royer of Central, Alexis Mead of Elon, Colby Stinnett of Madison Heights, Maggie Gunter of Pleasant View, and Heather Campbell of Temperance. Each student will receive a $50 savings bond.
Appomattox
- The following Appomattox Elementary School students were recently named reading award winners on the Reading Safari: Melody Nash, Jurnee Hamlett, Amber jones, Conner Branham, Alexis Doughia, Hayley Garrett, Trey Hatcher, Heaven Petty, Joshua Enders, Avante Morris, A'Shanta Robinson, Dylan Ford, Nicholas McDaniel, A'yana Williams, Chelsea Laughlin, Corey Mayberry and Tyler Ensley.
- The following Appomattox County High School Future Farmers of America members in the Agricultural Production 4/5 class recently received their Virginia Private Pesticide Applicator’s License: Daniel Fee, Michael Mazejka, Adam Moore, Dalton Bennett, Brent Franklin, Marcus Driggers, Bruce Jones, Daniel Evans, Cameron Cowart, Staci Hudson, Jeremy Carter, Jeremy Smith and Earl Bowman. These students went through extensive training and took a test issued by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. One hundred percent of the class passed the exam.
- Appomattox Elementary School student Joshua Judy was named a first-place winner in The Alliance for Families and Children’s ‘Why My Family is Special’ essay contest. He will receive a $50 savings bond.
Bedford
- Liberty High School 10th-grader Adam Warnalis attended the National Young Leaders Conference held in October in Washington, D.C. He was recommended by his guidance counselor to attend the leadership development program.

- The Holy Cross Regional Catholic School Sci Guys took second place in the State Lego League Tournament for Division One Robot Design. Team members include Colin Baker, Gerald Brooker, Michael Charlton, David Loftus, James Schubert, Thomas Schubert and Sam Winters.
