A recount in Virginia's 5th District will determine which political party holds a one-seat advantage in the state's U.S. House delegation.
The recount in Democrat Tom Perriello's apparent victory over Republican incumbent Virgil Goode begins Tuesday. The Virginia State Board of Elections certified Perriello as the winner by 745 votes, but the margin of less than a quarter of a percentage point entitles Goode to a recount at taxpayer expense.
Results will be presented Wednesday to a three-judge panel in Albemarle County Circuit Court. The judges will decide who won — and which party has the 6-5 edge.
