A Concord family will need extensive work on the front of their house before they can move back in after a pickup truck crashed into the front wall Wednesday afternoon.
A 75-year-old man crashed his Dodge Dakota pickup truck into the house on Westview Circle, according to Concord Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jody Mayberry.
“It went right through the front door,” Mayberry said.
He said the accident’s cause is unknown, but the driver was apparently backing out of his driveway and wasn’t able to stop his truck, which rolled down the street in reverse until it collided with the house.
The pickup’s driver was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with minor injuries, Mayberry said, but no one in the house was hurt.
Mayberry said the house’s owner, Ron Adams, his wife and his daughter were inside the house at the time.
The house wasn’t totally destroyed, he said, but will require a good deal of work.
“They’re going to have to reframe the front wall,” he said, “and they’re going to have to re-brick the front of it, put in a new front door.”
Virginia State Trooper P.A. Eckenrode, who investigated the accident, could not be reached, and Mayberry said he didn’t know if any charges were filed.
