A Lynchburg boy is in critical condition after riding his bicycle into the side of a moving vehicle Monday night, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.

Officer Ronnie Sitler said the 10-year-old boy was riding his bicycle when he attempted to cross the intersection of Early and Marshall streets around 8:30 p.m. and struck the side of a moving 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was initially taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and later flown to UVa Medical Center in critical condition, Sitler said.

No charges were filed Monday night. Sitler said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the police department’s Traffic Safety Unit at (434) 455-6047.
