A single vehicle crash killed a Vinton woman Monday morning on U.S. 460 in Montvale.

Dorothy Jean Perdue, 54, of Vinton, died when her 1997 Ford Explorer ran off the left side of westbound U.S. 460 just west of Virginia 691, said Sgt. Bob Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police. When the SUV careened into the median it rolled several times and partially threw her from the vehicle.

Perdue was pronounced dead at the scene, Carpentieri said.

The crash is still under investigation and authorities are trying to determine what caused Perdue to run off the road.
