»  Comments | Post a Comment

A logging accident killed a man in western Bedford County on Friday morning.

Bedford County Sherriff’s Captain Kevin Adams said 69-year-old Haden Dunbar of Roanoke died when the skidder he was operating rolled down an embankment. A skidder is a vehicle used for cutting trees.

Investigators said the skidder rolled 15 to 16 times and fell more than 100 yards before a tree caught it.

The accident happened in a remote area of Montvale. Bedford County deputies had to use all-terrain vehicles to reach the site.

An OSHA investigator was on the scene Friday. Sheriff’s deputies said Dunbar was not wearing a seat belt.
