Liberty University officials announced plans on Thursday to move into the Lynchburg Inn and Conference Center on Odd Fellows Road.
The announcement came via the school’s online publication of The Liberty Journal, which stated the school would begin leasing the center, formerly the Ramada, today.
According to the Web site, the center will be used for distance-learning students and could accommodate up to 7,000 students for intensives, or shortened courses.
Early this month, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. commented in a phone interview on the possibility of a deal with the center amid growing rumors of such a transaction.
“There’s a couple of local businessmen who are trying to buy (the center),” he said in early June. “They may or may not donate it to us later ... They’re just buying it as an
investment.”
The Web site quoted Falwell as saying the hotel would still be rented to the public, and the current staff will stay in place.
