Thumbs up to officials at all three of Bedford County’s high schools — Jefferson Forest, Liberty and Staunton River — for securing grants designed to bolster enrollment in Advanced Placement classes.
Each school is set to receive $250,000 in the first year of the grant and could receive up to $1.4 million over the course of five years.
JF currently has 12 AP classes; Liberty, 10 and Staunton River, seven. Officials already have big plans drawn to expand those options and give more students the chance to earn college credits while in high school.
Good work, and thanks for reminding us that local schools are not only good in sports but are great in academics.
