A Lynchburg man was charged with robbery after a Wednesday night incident at Lynchburg College, according to police.

Capt. Wayne Duff, with the Lynchburg Police Department, said two female students called police to the campus in the area of Montgomery Hall at about 7:45 p.m., reporting that they had been robbed.

The students told responding officers that the man had his hand in his pocket, claiming to have a gun. They said the man made off with a purse and a cell phone, Duff said.

Officers apprehended Jessee Ford, 18, shortly after arriving on the campus, at the same time that other officers were interviewing the alleged victims.

Ford was charged with two counts of robbery and is being held at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.

Duff said Ford is not a student at the college.
