ACHIEVEMENTS

Appomattox

-The following Appomattox County High School Future Farmers of America members placed in the Youth Sheep Show held in October in Richmond: Carson Baldwin, fifth in showmanship class, third in feeder lamb class, and seventh in market lamb class; William Elliott, ninth in showmanship class, ninth in ewe class, and 10th in market lamb class; Ashley Harris, ninth in showmanship and seventh in market lamb; Stacie Scholten, seventh in showmanship, eighth in commercial ewe, and fifth in market lamb; Jeremy Smith, fifth in showmanship and eighth in market lamb; Dylan Watson, fourth in feeder lamb class; and Mary Beth Wingfield, ninth in showmanship and eighth in market lamb. ACHS is the only school in the entire state with its own livestock show team.

Bedford

-The Staunton River High School Youth of Virginia Speak Out (YOVASO) club won a school-wide tail-gate party courtesy of the YOVASO foundation and K92 radio station. The SRHS club earned the party through student participation in a three-week seltbelt usage campaign. This year’s SRHS YOVASO officers are Zach Drivers, president, Whitney Jones, vice president, Blake Hurt, treasurer, Trista Stevens, secretary, and Sarah Zimmerman, historian.

-The following Thomas Jefferson Elementary School students were the top sellers during the Innisbrook fundraiser: Emma Robertson, Katlyn Watts, Baileigh Armes, Chase Price, Nicholas Tollerson, Bradly Robertson, Allison Hensley, Jason Hebring, Trey Dupree and Lauren Hubbard.

Lynchburg

-The following Linkhorne Middle School students were selected to participate in the Middle School Honors Concert held Nov. 10 at Dunbar Middle School: Katie Gray Brammer, Hannah Bush, Rebekah Chun, Carson Creasy, Casey Driskill, Lindsey Ford, Megan McMahon, Jessica Payne, Liza Pittard, Lauren Poletti, Lindsay Riordan, Christopher Tugman, Rebekah Barrow, Brian Carey, Alexa Dahlin, Olivia Davis, Madeleine McDonald, Emory McVeigh, Alex Minnick and Matt Pittard.

-The E.C. Glass Marching Band was named the highest placing Virginia band at the USSBA Northern State Championship held in Allentown, Pa. E.C. Glass received its highest score of the year at the competition.

-The following E.C. Glass High School chorus students earned a spot in the VMEA #6 All-District Chorus: Abby Pawelczyk, Dominique Scruggs, Jasmine Jones, Liana Rose, Mary Ellen Golcheski, Kara Hudson, Stephanie Morgan, Laura Campbell, Jimmy Rapiejko, Timothy Pugliese, Omari Spinner, Daron McDaniel, Jaron Davis, Johnathan Arnold, Shameek Thomas, Terrance Clark, Stuart Marshall, Colby Brown and Michael Webb.

Private Schools

-Holy Cross Regional Catholic School students Nina Rezai and William Loftus took first place in the Public Forum event during the South-Western Virginia Forensics Tournament held in October.

-Holy Cross Regional Catholic School students Mikayla Burton, Molly Graham and Tom Bruzek were winners of the summer art contest.
