Virginia Ware died at the VCU Medical Center, in Richmond, Sunday, said Lynchburg Fire Deputy Chief Walter Bailey.
Ware, her son and his wife and her grandson were in the house near Rivermont Avenue when the fire broke out. Three were critically injured in the blaze. Ware's 18-year-old grandson seemed unharmed but was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for evaluation.
Firefighters rescued Ware and the mother from the blaze after the father and son made it out on their own.
Fire Marshall Greg Wormser said the fire started when a space heater ignited some clothing left lying close to it.
Lynchburg Fire Battalion Chief Ricky Bomar said one of the 28 firefighters at the scene was injured while fighting the fire, and was treated at Lynchburg General Hospital and released.
