By the numbers, Warner held a 58-33 lead among 625 likely voters who were interviewed Monday and Tuesday, well beyond the poll’s margin of error.
The Mason-Dixon polling, done three times since late September, has generally shown Warner favored by about 60 percent of people likely to vote Nov. 4.
Gilmore’s rating stood at 28 percent favorable in September and had risen by five points this week.
In one notable statistic, among voters who identified themselves as Republicans, 27 percent said they would vote for Warner.
Among Democrats, 7 percent said they would cross party lines to support Gilmore.
Regionally, Warner’s strongest support came from Northern Virginia, and from Roanoke and Southwest Virginia.
Warner’s lead in the Roanoke/Southwest area widened by nine points during the first three weeks of October, and the Democrat is now ahead 66-26 in the region.
In the Lynchburg-Danville area, Warner’s support dipped four points and Gilmore gained three points, based on interviews with 70 likely voters. Still, Warner leads Gilmore in the region by 52-36.
The Shenandoah Valley is the most competitive region in the Senate race, and shows Warner with a 48-40 lead.
