Lynchburg

- The following Heritage High School students earned internships for the fall semester at BWX, AREVA and Nova Tech: John Bailey, Sam Caroll, Justin Nguyen, Javaughon Black, Stefan Phelps and Chalandra Reid.

- Heritage High School student Benjamin Karaus received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award for earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken.

- The following Heritage High School students received the AP Scholar Award for completing three or more AP exams with grades of 3.0 or higher: Jake Haskins, Cyrus Hinkson, Joshua Knight, Sarah Lavinder, Lauren Maxwell, Sarah Nilles and Kyle Tenny.

- The Heritage High School Big Orange Marching Machine earned first place and a superior rating in the Class AAA division at the Patrick County Cougar Classic Marching Band Competition held Oct. 11 at Patrick County High School. The HHS band received first-place honors in color guard, music, percussion, marching and general effect. The band was also named the invitational’s Grand Champion, receiving the highest overall score of any band regardless of class.

- The following E. C. Glass High School students qualified, by audition, to participate in the South Central Senior Regional Orchestra to be held Nov. 15 at Harrisonburg High School: Sarah Catherine Straw, John Petrey, Anne Patterson, Elizabeth Fisher, Anna Wade and Sami Natour. Patrick Clark and Adam Fabirkiewicz were chosen as alternates. These students are now eligible to audition for the All-State Orchestra in February.
