All of the worry about Tropical Storm Hanna's effects on this game was just that ... worry. It's a bit breezy here, but warm, sunny and humid. Should be a fine night for football.
First off, here's the full injury report. The following Liberty players are OUT for tonight's game: RB Rashad Jennings (finger), LB Nick Hursky (knee), LB Kyle O'Donnell (knee), LB Pierre Tinsley (knee), DB Donald Manns (ankle), DB Chuck Duffey (ankle), TE Tommy Shaver (foot), WR Matt Lambros (hand), RB Terry Williams (knee), . I think that's everyone, at least everyone who would see playing time were they healthy.
Other notes:
* When I spoke to LU coach Danny Rocco Friday, he said backup offensive lineman Spencer Hodges had gotten his academics in order and is eligible. But he's "still in the doghouse," Rocco said.
* A win tonight would make it 10 in a row at home for the Flames.
* Liberty hasn't lost to a Division II team since 1993 (Indiana (Pa.))
* Glenville State may have a Division I tailback in Jerry Seymour, but the Pioneers only have 15-17 players on scholarship. So an upset here tonight is a real longshot.
* Liberty has won six straight games by an average of 32.7 points.
* Player to watch tonight: B.J. Hayes. With Jennings out and Zach Terrell playing tailback, Hayes will be the slash-type A-back. The kid has a ton of speed and talent and will get plenty of touches tonight to show it.
* Current iPod groove: "Us and Them" by the Easy Star All-Stars, from the excellent "Dub Side of the Moon" record.
Back at halftime with ruminations and observations.
