Bedford
-Moneta Elementary School librarian and gifted coordinator Stella Osborne traveled on a 20-day European Heritage tour this summer as a People to People delegation leader.
-The following Bedford Primary School students were recently named winners of the School Calendar Contest: Emma Arrington, Marissa Turner, Makayla Brown, Christopher Powers, Daniel Miller, Nicholas Bernard, Tyanna Robertson, Hailey Cash, Gracyn Herbst, Kathryn Painchaud, Leah Arthur and Caleb Eckart. These students had their artwork chosen to be displayed in a school calendar benefiting the Bedford Primary PTA.
-Thomas Jefferson Elementary School earned the Governor’s Award (bronze level) for Best Practices in Nutrition and Physical Activity.
Lynchburg
-Cadet Captain David Honse of the Heritage High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC program was recently awarded the ‘Legion of Valor’ award, the highest award a JROTC cadet can earn. This award is given to one cadet from each Marine Corp Junior ROTC region that has excelled above all others in academic standing, community service, military excellence and personal character and integrity. Honse competed against 50 other schools and approximately 4,500 other cadets.
-The Heritage High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC program earned the title of National Naval Honor School for the 2007-2008 school year, ranking the school in the top 20 percent of the region’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC programs.
-Cadet Captain David Honse and Cadet Gunnery Sergeant Sidney Jackson of the Heritage High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC program earned Distinguished Leadership Awards this summer during Senior Leadership Camp at Camp Outdoor Odyssey in Pennsylvania.
