The Virginia Department of Transportation and several firms are fishing for public feedback on potential short-term and long-term transportation improvements for the Smith Mountain Lake area.
A study is under way to develop solutions to address expected increases in population and traffic, according to a news release from VDOT. Michael Baker Jr. Inc. and Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern Inc. are listed on the release as firms involved in the study.
Input from residents who travel, live or work within the lake area is “extremely important to the success of the study,” the release states.
VDOT and the study team are holding public information meetings today and Thursday to gather citizen input.
Today’s meeting is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Burnt Chimney Elementary School located at 80 Burnt Chimney Road in Wirtz. The Thursday meeting is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Moneta Elementary School at 12718 Old Moneta Road in Moneta.
