Bedford
- Jefferson Forest High School junior Kevin Carlin has been accepted to the 2009 Naval Academy Baseball/Leadership Program to be held in August. Carlin attends the Central Virginia Governor’s School and is a member of the National Honor Society and the JFHS baseball team.
- Liberty High School’s literary magazine, ‘Collage,’ took third place for best cover design in 2008 and fourth place for best illustration at the annual CSPA Conference held in March by Columbia University in Manhattan.

Glass High School students competed in the Skills Championship at the Virginia SkillsUSA Leadership Conference held recently in Hampton: Shane Dreher, second, Architectural Drawing; Brittany Blake, fourth, Essay; Kayla Bryant, fifth, Extemporaneous Writing; Chris Spanski, bronze medal, Precision Machine Technical Exam; and Chris Harper, fifth, Precision Machine.
- The following William M. Bass Elementary School students were recently named ‘Terrific Kids’ by the Lynchburg Kiwanis Club: Deshawn Patterson, Naiquasia Parker, Terrence Lacey, Kelly Benitez, Isaiah Jackson, Charles Goode, Tykwon Mitchell, Keeley Sarver, Emmett Anderson, Ageis McDaniel, Shania Dews, Janalyn Blankenship, Colby Davis, Deja Cobbs, Taj McCrath and Jeffery Price.

Glass High School Culinary Arts students placed in their events at the Family and Career Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference and Star Events competition held May 27-29 in Virginia Beach: Anna Stevens, first place, Career Portfolio and Exhibit Patisserie/Confectionary event; culinary team of Darius Bell, Hannah Green and Darius Hill, second place; and Sasha Chubay, third, Career Porfolio and Exhibit Showpieces.

- The following Branches Academy students were recently named to the All-A Honor Roll: McKenna Hamilton, Jasilyn Queen and Jessica Murphy.
- James River Day School student Trevor Falls recently advanced to the state level of the National Geography Bee.
- Holy Cross Regional Catholic School’s Robotics Team took second place recently at the Liberty Robotics Challenge held at Liberty University. Team members were Joe Bruzek, Anthony Garbarini and William Loftus.
