BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — A hearing has been rescheduled for a Virginia Tech doctoral student accused of killing a fellow student in a campus cafe.
A hearing set for Thursday in Montgomery County General District Court was continued until May 29.
The hearing was intended to present the results of a mental evaluation of Haiyang Zhu (hy-yuhng-joo) before his case moves forward.
At the request of the defense and prosecution, the Thursday hearing was delayed so a more thorough evaluation could be presented.
Zhu is charged with first-degree murder of a fellow Chinese student, Xin Yang (shin yuhng). The 22-year-old woman was beheaded in her dormitory cafe where she met Zhu for coffee Jan. 21.
After his arrest, Zhu was transferred to a state mental hospital in Petersburg.
