Lynchburg City Council will hold its annual retreat Monday. Topics planned include the city’s financial outlook and major capital projects within the school system.
The budget is expected to be a point of heavy focus during this year’s one-day retreat, which will be held at City Hall. Council will be asked to review and weigh in on various cost-cutting ideas crafted by city staff.
Officials will also discuss the long-stalled plans to renovate or rebuild the deteriorating Heritage High School building, a multi-million dollar project that has been pushed back repeatedly because of budget constraints. Council is also slated to tour the construction site of the new Sandusky Middle School, a more than $28 million project that broke ground last year.
The retreat will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in a meeting room on the second floor of City Hall, 900 Church St. Council is scheduled to wrap up its deliberations by 5:30 p.m. then move out for the tour of the Sandusky Middle School site.
In addition to the budget and school construction discussions, the retreat agenda also includes updates on several ongoing city initiatives and concerns, including the Community Dialogue on Race and Racism, the Sustainable City program and new storm water management regulations.
