Rezoning requests down in Bedford County due to recession

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The economy’s crippling effect on construction has led the Bedford County Planning Commission to scarcely review land use projects in 2009, according to mid-year report on activities and trends.

The commission did not receive any requests this year from Jan. 1 to June 30 for rezonings, zoning text changes or special review projects and held only two public hearings on separate requests for special use permits.

The total of stick-built homes has sharply declined since 2007 while the total of manufactured homes has also decreased but at a lesser rate, according to the report. The county’s division of planning reviewed or immediately issued 448 applications for zoning permits from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2009, it states.

The report lists several projects in Forest that are under review or have been approved by the

county.

They include Autumn Run — a 77-lot subdivision off Cottontown Road, a Kroger undergoing construction at Forest Square Shopping Center, a Taco Bell at the shopping center, a Central Virginia Credit Union at the intersection of Perrowville Road and U.S. 221 and a Sheetz at the intersection of Ashwood Park Road and U.S. 221.
