Concerns abound about health care
Not until I see the finished bill on health care that is to be voted on will I know how I feel about it. I can’t make an informed decision on something I know nothing about — neither can anyone else.

Not until the whole of Congress, including the president, are included in the health care plan being pushed at us, will I feel that we are being looked after. I know they are looking after themselves.

Most frankly and publicly have admitted that they will not accept the same insurance we have, and apparently they don’t want us to have the same privilege they have either.

We actually voted for these people, and they expect us to vote for them again. Isn’t that weird?

LC among the best
A story in the Aug. 22 edition of The News & Advance noted that Randolph and Sweet Briar colleges are ranked among the best liberal arts colleges in the U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.” The story failed to mention, however, that Lynchburg College is also included in this annual guide, though in a different category.

Lynchburg College ranks 38th in the top tier of southern colleges that offers a full range of undergraduate programs and master’s degrees in the “Best Universities — Master’s” category. This is the sixth consecutive year that Lynchburg College has been ranked as a top-tier master’s degree institution. Only nine Virginia schools can claim that top-tier distinction this year.

We are proud of our inclusion as a top-tier school. National recognition of Lynchburg’s local colleges and universities is a matter of pride for the entire community.

A communal thanks
The Virginia State Police Association sponsored the third annual VSPA Emergency Relief Golf Tournament on July 28 to help with the cost of medical needs for Cecelia Kincaid. The VSPA Emergency Relief Fund helps families of law enforcement officers throughout the state. Cecelia has been diagnosed with colonic dysplasia and has been struggling with medical issues since 9 months of age.

The Kincaid family and the VSPA thank all of the supporters of the tournament. The golf tournament took place in Appomattox at Falling River Country Club. The sponsors, donors, volunteers and golfers made the tournament a huge success. The proceeds from the golf tournament will cover the entire cost for the medical expenses for Cecelia Kincaid’s feeding clinic.

Our family has been blessed by family, friends and anonymous donors during this past year. Our family wants to let these people know how truly blessed we are by their generosity. St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Virginia State Police Association have been our sources of strength, encouragement and hope.
