Elderly woman drives into Lynchburg apartment building

»  Comments | Post a Comment

An elderly Lynchburg woman was slightly hurt after she drove her car into an apartment building on Old Forest Road on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officer Bryant Nowlin said Virgie Banks, 87, was pulling out of the First National Bank parking lot, across from the Bramblewood Apartments, when she pressed her foot against the gas, thinking it was the brake.

Nowlin said her 2007 Mercury Milan plowed through the wall of a vacant apartment unit in the same building where the complex’s office is housed.

Nowlin said the building was still structurally sound, but the wall needed to be boarded up until it can be fixed.

Banks’ car, he said, suffered heavy front-end damage, possibly enough to total the car.

Banks was charged with reckless driving.
