The Fair Tax candidate in the Fifth
Mike McPadden, a candidate for the House of Representatives for the Fifth District of Virginia, said, “The income tax code that we presently suffer under is morally repugnant to me and needs to be replaced. Because of the phenomena of embedded taxes, our current tax system is the most regressive of tax systems, and truly hurts those at the lowest end of our economic system the most.”

He supports the Fair Tax and believes it is a top priority of government. His Web site encourages everyone to please educate themselves on this important issue. I have done so, and what I have discovered is that the Fair Tax states as its purpose: To promote freedom, fairness and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and enacting a national sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.

I believe the Fair Tax will restore individual liberty to the people because people will be able to decide how to pay their taxes by making purchases instead of their money being stolen from them in payroll deductions. The Fair Tax brings about sound money in that the federal government will rely on the states for income instead of the people. And the Fair Tax will restore constitutional restraint to the federal government because the federal government will be accountable to the states.

This kind of real economic stimulus is what our representatives should have been feverishly fighting for. Instead, our current representative, Rep. Tom Perriello, has walked lock step with the president and congressional leaders, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, voting with them and in turn has done injury to those at the lowest end of our economic system.

Working against the greater good the Democrats have systematically stalled H.R.25, the Fair Tax Act of 2009. This bill has been stuck in the House Committee on Ways and Means since Jan. 6.

The Democrats have instead pushed through and made law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a.k.a. the stimulus bill. Their current effort to subvert the freedom of the people and do injury is to ram health care reform which leaves we the people with more government, additional wasteful spending and financially leveraging our future.

Mike McPadden seeks the support of the people to fight for the poor and the middle class, to restore liberty and to reign in and push back big government. His leadership is exactly what the Fifth District needs. His leadership is what our country needs. He will put individual liberty, sound money and constitutional restraint to work for the greater good of the people.
