Child found unattended in van in Madison Heights

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case of a child found unattended in a van Monday in the Food Lion parking lot at Seminole Drive in Madison Heights.

Deputies found the two-year-old had been left alone in the van for nearly half an hour while the child’s mother was shopping, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The release noted the case is still under investigation and review by the commonwealth’s attorney and that no charges were filed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Greg Turner reminded caregivers to never leave a child unattended for any period of time because of the possibility for abduction and that children can be injured or die in hotter times of the year.
