ACHIEVEMENTS
Appomattox
- Appomattox Elementary School student Rakeem Wright was honored for his mixed media painting, ‘Daredevil,’ during a reception and award ceremony held recently at Longwood University. Wright’s painting was first shown in the spring at the 2009 Area Youth Art Exhibit at the Longwood Center for Visual Arts. Several pieces from the exhibit, including Wright’s, will be on display in Longwood’s Hull Building until May 2010.
- The following Appomattox County High School students were recognized for their accomplishments during a recently school board meeting: Robert Daniel Whorley, Kenneth Warner, Andrew Walker, Kimberly Ann Goin and Benjamin Lawson, passed the Professional Drafting Certification Exam through the American Design Drafting Association; Leslie Johnson, recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award; Daniella Gaulden, received score of ‘5’ on AP U.S. History Test and Commendation for National Merit Scholarship; Christine McRae, received score of ‘5’ on AP U.S. History Test; Dakota Henderson, Brad Mayberry, Kelsey McKinney and Dylan Fanney, members of Landscaping Class that planted Concourse Area, helped design ‘A’ by the Field House, distributed plants to classrooms and mulched around school; Julianne James, member of Landscaping Class who potted plants for greenhouse, helped design ‘A’ by Field House, made floral arrangements and mulched around school; and Samantha McFadden, achievement in Youth Art Exhibit at Longwood University, artwork on display in Hull Building until May 2010.
- Appomattox County High School FFA member Caleb Baker was named third-high individual in the Southside Area Junior FFA Tractor Operating Career Development Event held recently in Chatham.
