An Appomattox County man is charged with maliciously wounding an infant last week.

Travis Wayne Kerr is being held in the Appomattox County jail without bond.

Around 1 p.m. on Dec. 21, the Appomattox County 911 center received a call for a rescue squad on Rough Creek Road.

“The call was for a two-month-old crying and foaming at the mouth,” said Donald Simpson, an Appomattox County sheriff’s office investigator.

The child was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and then to Roanoke Carilion Medical Center that evening, where he remains today, Simpson said.

Police were contacted because of the extent of the injuries. “I don’t know whether it’s a shaken baby or a strike to the head or body. I think shaken baby might not cover the injuries.”

Kerr was arrested on Dec. 24 and charged with malicious wounding.
