Small businesses, taxpayers need help
The media and the Obama administration are beginning to make us hate corporate America and its abuses and excesses. We see daily articles on the bonuses that CEOs are receiving while their work forces are slashed, sports events are sponsored by bailed-out banks, or “excessive” profits are being made in the face of an energy crisis. Every day we see more and more companies laying off workers. The number of unemployment claims is up almost every week.
Corporate America is the basis for our American way of life. We are a capitalist / free enterprise society in which a profit is expected to be made, expenses incurred to increase market share, and employees and CEOs rewarded for exceeding their goals at the end of the year.

Our economic system is built on rewarding workers willing to work and achieve.
When we start undermining this system and start rewarding or handing out checks to the non-workers or tax credits to people who pay no taxes, we are on our way to a socialist society and one in which its citizens become slaves to the state.
A portion of our society knows exactly what slavery is and should stand staunchly against this downward spiral in our society, but they are being used to anchor the liberals’ drive toward socialism.
The small businesses and individual taxpayers of our country should be the ones stimulated by the stimulus package. They create jobs and buy consumer goods. They will be the ones to rescue our economy, not the federal government.
It is time for “We the People” to stand up and shout our disapproval of the federal government’s takeover of our banking system, auto industry and whatever else is next. Our freedoms are being sold to the highest bidder.

Fifth Street work opposed
Fifth Street revitalization! What a joke. Besides, I thought this was supposed to be referred to as Martin Luther King Boulevard after our fair officials spent thousands a few years back to re-name it.
Can I get a refund on my taxes since I for one did not support that and do not support this either?
And seven months to widen a sidewalk and fix a street: We all know that will end up being at least a year or so.
What about that bridge on D Street? Was that forgotten? I bet the new suicide-proof railings that anyone could get around will be built on the Rivermont Bridge long before this is complete.
If some of our city brainiacs look hard enough, they may find a place in Washington to work.
Oh well, maybe I’ll just innocently forget to pay taxes and it’ll all go away.
