Virginia Tech today opens to the public its archive of documents on the April 16, 2007, shootings.
The archive contains records and e-mail correspondence related to shooter Seung-Hui Cho, as well as documents and e-mails from top university officials on the day of the massacre.
Many are among records the Richmond Times-Dispatch has used over the past several months to report on the tragedy, including disclosures that Tech officials acted to secure some facilities before alerting the campus to Cho's first two shootings, and that they took little action in several disturbing incidents involving Cho.
There are about 7,700 documents; the university made them available to victims and families in mid-December.
Legal settlements with victims and families of the deceased required Tech to maintain the electronic archive.
The public can inspect the archive on two computer terminals, one on the second floor of the Newman Library on the Virginia Tech campus and the other on the second floor of the Library of Virginia in Richmond.
