Bedford

- The following Thomas Jefferson Elementary School students competed in the Elks Free Throw Shooting Contest held Jan. 17: Demel Bolden, first place, nine-year-old boys; Trey Dupree, second, 10-year-old boys; and Ashley Evans, second, 10-year-old girls. Bolden advanced to the regional competition held Jan. 24 in Galax.

- The following Body Camp Elementary School students were named to the All-A Honor Roll for the second nine weeks: Jessica Hurt, Sabrina Nichols and Patrick Northrup.

- David O’Hara, a fifth-grade teacher at Thaxton Elementary School, was recently named Wal-Mart’s ‘Teacher of the Year.’He was nominated by a student for his outstanding efforts in the classroom. O’Hara received a $100 gift card and Thaxton Elementary was awarded a $1,000 donation.
