Legislation would benefit proposed Nelson County distillery

»  Comments | Post a Comment

RICHMOND — A Nelson County distillery that is expected to begin operating later this year could benefit from a piece of legislation proposed in the General Assembly.

Eades Whisky could blend and sell whisky on its premises under a bill sponsored by Del. Watkins Abbitt, I-Appomattox, whose district includes Nelson County.

House bill 2390 would change some regulations for a distiller that is licensed by the state to sell spirits on its premises.

The change would let the distiller receive spirits from somewhere else, further age them, and blend them with other spirits to be bottled for sale.

The Eades distillery is expected to start construction soon and open sometime in 2009.
