Appomattox
- The following Appomattox Elementary School students were recognized recently as award winners on the reading safari: De-Andre Booker, Cassidy Carter, Brandon Litchford, Amy Burks, Damon Patterson, Delaney Henderson, Joshua Enders, Gillian Fanney, Michael Ryan, Tamara Hartman, Makari Ferguson, Jordan Kidd, Erin Thompson and Julia Jones.
Bedford
- Forest Middle School sixth-grader Jake Richardson will represent his school at the County Spelling Bee to be held Feb. 5 at Liberty High School.
Lynchburg
- The following Lynchburg students in grades 7-9 earned a spot in the Southwest Virginia Regional Advanced or Intermediate Orchestras and will perform in the Junior Regional Orchestra Concert to be held March 21 at Albemarle High School: Mary Alexander Patterson of Dunbar Middle School, concertmaster for the advanced orchestra; Greg Childress of E.C. Glass High School, principal violinist, and Will Light of E.C. Glass, principal cellist. The following students will also perform in the advanced orchestra: Shannon Raines, Alexandra Wray, Desyre Calloway, Jazelle Toure and Adryan Flores, all of E.C. Glass; Lindsey Kim, Anna Hutcherson and Caitlin Roberts, all of Heritage High School; Joseph Seo, Hope Wright, Katherine Coates, Kiley Overstreet, Brandon Raines, Bryan Rapp and Atticus Dickson, all of Dunbar Middle; Daniel Hong, Anna Yoon, Kiana Darby and Julie Jeong, all of Sandusky Middle School; and Jessica Payne, Carson Creasy, Lindsay Riordan, Liza Pittard and Hanna Bush, all of LInkhorne Middle School. Glass;, Asha Nithianandan, Grace Kim, Samantha Terry and Emily Kim, all of Heritage; Natasha Billard, Andrea Clements, Dean Flores, Jolito Rivera, Sadie Natour and Olivia Varah, all of Dunbar; Jenny Roach and Jake Carrol, both of Sandusky; and Matt Pittard, Brandon Coffer, Brian Carey, Rebekah Barrow, Olivia Davis, Megan McMahon, Alex Minnick and Kelsey Thomson, all of Linkhorne.
- The following Lynchburg schools earned the Board of Education Excellence Award: Bedford Hills, Paul Munro, Sanduksy and William Marvin Bass elementary schools. These schools earned the award by meeting all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and have made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by Governor Timothy M. Kaine and the board. The following Lynchburg schools earned the Board of Education Competance for Excellence Award: Dearington Elementary School for Innovation, Heritage Elementary, Heritage High School and Sheffield Elementary. These schools earned the award by meeting all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and are making progress toward the goals of the governor and the board.
- The following members of the E.C. Glass High School Ambassador Club participated in a Christmas party for students at the Laurel Regional School: Kim Amerell, Ella Baldwin, Sydney Bolton, Lianne Brown, Caty-Betz Holcomb, Kathleen Lifsey, Caroline Moore, Anna Newton, Michael Taheny, Logan Troyer, Kevin Truitte, John Vincent and Addison Walker.
