BEDFORD — A camp for people with disabilities in Bedford County has closed for the rest of the summer after what its operators call a medical incident involving a camper.
Camp Virginia Jaycee said on its Web site that it voluntarily closed June 27. The incident also resulted in the dismissal of the camp’s medical staff and the camp director. No other details were given.
A telephone message left on the camp’s voicemail on Wednesday wasn’t immediately returned.
The Web site says the camper is “doing fine” and that camp officials are continuing to communicate with the person and care providers. The camp’s board plans to hire new administrative and medical teams.
