A head-on collision on Virginia 122 near Moneta sent three to the hospital and totaled two vehicles Wednesday afternoon, according to state police.
Sgt. Bob Carpentieri of Virginia State Police said the wreck happened at 5:27 p.m., near the intersection of Virginia 122 and Stony Fork Road, just south of Virginia 24.
Sammy Martin, 23, of Ferrum, was driving north in a 2004 Ford Taurus, when he crossed the center line, Carpentieri said.
Martin collided with a 1999 Chevy Malibu driven by Craig Powers, 42, of Wertz, Carpentieri said.
Both drivers were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, along with Shanna Pudder, of Bedford, a passenger in Martin’s car.
Carpentieri said he didn’t know the status of any of the patients or what injuries they sustained.
All were wearing their seat belts, he said.
Martin was charged with reckless driving, but Carpentieri said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
The wreck backed up traffic on Virginia 122 until most units left the scene around 7:30 p.m.
