Garrett wins Republican nomination

Lynchburg city councilman Scott Garrett won the Republican nomination Tuesday night to run for the House of Delegates against incumbent Del. Shannon Valentine.

Garrett defeated fellow councilman Jeff Helgeson 2,123 votes to 1,807 with all precincts reporting in the 23rd House District, which includes Madison Heights.

In the statewide Democratic Primary, state Sen. Creigh Deeds won the party's nomination for governor in a decisive victory over Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran.
