Lynchburg City Council has allocated about $237,400 in community grants funded by stimulus dollars.
The stimulus money was awarded for use in the city’s Community Development Block Grant program, which supports a variety of community improvement projects.
This year’s full slate of CDBG awards will be put to a public hearing in July. The stimulus grants, which were on an accelerated timeline per federal regulations, were finalized on Tuesday.
A citizens advisory committee had previously recommended the following grant candidates for stimulus money: Lynchburg Community Action Group ($70,000); Rebuilding Together ($61,664); Fifth Street corridor improvements ($54,800); United Way’s Smart Beginnings program ($18,200); and the Interfaith Outreach Association ($9,000).
Another $23,740 was also earmarked for the city’s administrative costs. City Council approved the committee recommendations without alteration.
