-Heritage High School student Warren Winstead took first place in the art category of the Holocaust Education Foundation’s Holocaust Awareness Contest for Lynchburg City Schools.

-E.C. Glass High School student Katherine Agnew was one of three regional winners of a $1,000 scholarship from the Lee-Jackson Foundation Essay Contest.
-The following E.C. Glass High School students successfully completed the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow program, a dual-enrollment course offered through Lynchburg College: Kara Hudson, Mary Lass, Teneka Gilbert, David Verburg, Jaron Davis, Hannah Smith, Albert Wood and Erika Barker.
-The following E.C. Glass High School Orchestra students received awards for the 2008-2009 school year: Anne Patterson, Summer Governor’s School Award, John Petrey, Concertmaster Award, Sarah Catherine Straw, Concertmaster Award and All-State Orchestra Award, and Anna Wade, All-State Orchestra Award.
-E.C. Glass High School students Ariel Wiley and Carmen Hamlet were selected as ‘Students of the Year’ by the Lynchburg Dental Society. Each received a plaque and a $50 prize.
-The following E.C. Glass High School students were winners of the Central Virginia Community College Art Fair: Sarah Louise Dechow, third place in painting, Katie Wasmer, first in photography, Peyton Doyle, second in graphics, and Anna Wade, honorable mention in color drawing.

-New Covenant Schools student Taylor Vukich was named valedictorian and Nicole Mayberry was named salutatorian of their graduating class.
-James River Day School student Douglas Tom was the recipient of the Neil Dooley Award for fourth grade.

Regional Programs
-The Center for Economic Education at Lynchburg College hosted its annual 2008-2009 Economic Education Awards Program on May 20 to honor outstanding Stock Market Game participants, teacher award winners, and other significant contributions by teachers and students to economic education in K-12 classrooms. The following were honored: Elon Elementary School, Amherst Middle School, Appomattox High School, Thaxton Elementary School, Forest Middle School, Liberty High School, Brookville Middle School, Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation, and E.C.
