A Campbell County man was taken into custody for an evaluation after leading a 90-minute standoff with law enforcement officers Monday.

At 11:13 a.m. deputies received a call concerning 28-year-old Jonathan Lee, of the 2000 block of Red House Road south of Rustburg. A neighbor and relative said Lee had threatened to harm himself and had shot a gun at the ground near his home, said Capt. L.T. Guthrie with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

“Family members were concerned about his welfare, and based on that we responded and tried to make contact with him,” Guthrie said.

About 12 to 14 deputies were on the scene, where Lee was alone and locked inside his residence. After they were not able to contact him, they forced their way into the residence and took Lee into custody without incident around 1 p.m.

Lee was not armed when he was taken into custody, Guthrie said.

He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for an evaluation. Guthrie said that no charges were filed.
