»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Forest nurse died Thursday evening after the SUV she was driving flipped over a guardrail in Albemarle, and struck a tree, according to Albemarle police.

Sgt. Scott Cox at about 7:40 p.m., Cathy Michelle-Dalton Eppes, 45, was driving her Honda CR-V south on U.S. 29, when she veered into the guardrail on the opposite side of the road.

Cox said Eppes overcorrected and struck the guardrail on her side of the road, causing the vehicle to flip and crash into the tree.

Eppes was pronounced dead at the scene, Cox said, and the Albemarle County Police De-partment’s crash investigation team is investigating the cause of the wreck.

Eppes, a registered nurse of more than 15 years, was the wife of Forest physician Dr. Thomas W. Eppes, who became president of the Medical Society of Virginia in October of last year.

Thomas Eppes has practiced at Forest Family Physicians since July of 1981.

Cathy Eppes graduated from the Lynchburg College School of Nursing, and received her master’s degree in nursing from Liberty University, according to her obituary, published in Saturday's News & Advance.

She had worked at both the Medical Care Center and The Summit retirement community, according to the obituary.

Her funeral is planned for Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Perrowville Road in Forest.
