ACHIEVEMENTS
Appomattox
- The following Appomattox County High School and Appomattox County Middle School students were recognized by the Appomattox County School Board for outstanding achievement and placement in the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association’s District III Band: Amy Davis, fourth place, bass clarinet; Hal Microutsicos, sixth, trumpet; Tyler Gage, fifth, euphonium; Jessica Austin, 25th, trumpet; Graham Harris, third, tenor sax; Alex Brown, first, baritone sax and participant in Junior Honors Band; and Josh Seay, 16th .
- The following Appomattox Elementary School students were recognized recently on the Reading Safari: Madison Totty, Candice Coleman, Juwan Irving, Katelynn Carr, Christopher Bohannon, Noah White, Brian Tracey, John-Ryan Nantz, Harmonie Elliott, Dylan Ford and Hannah Craddock.
Lynchburg
- E.C. Glass High School junior Daron McDaniel earned a spot on the All-Virginia Chorus after auditioning for the group during the Virginia Music Educators Association All-District Chorus event held in February at Salem High School. McDaniel will perform with the chorus in April. Fellow E.C. Glass juniors Jimmy Rapiejko and Timothy Pugliese were named Alternate Delegates to the All-Virginia Chorus.
- The following Lynchburg City elementary schools earned the Virginia Board of Education’s Excellence Award: Bedford Hills, Paul Munro, Sandusky and W.M. Bass. The following schools earned the Board of Education’s Competence to Excellence Award: Dearington Elementary School for Innovation, Heritage Elementary, Heritage High School and Sheffield Elementary.

Amherst County
- Elon Ruritan Club will be granting two college scholarships to area seniors . Applications are due March 27 and may be obtained from the guidance counselors office at Amherst County High School or by calling Henry Allen at 384-1670. Public, private and home schooled students are encouraged to apply and will be judged based on grades, extracurricular activities, volunteer efforts and character references.
