Del. Kathy Byron, R-Campbell County, said Wednesday she would seek re-election in November.
She faces no announced opposition.
Byron has served six terms in the House of Delegates, sponsoring many bills to “strengthen Virginia’s business climate,” she said in a news release.
Her legislation also has concentrated on improving workforce development and job creation.
She cited the General Assembly’s approval this year of a bill that allows manufacturing companies to choose to be taxed on sales of their products rather than the value of their plants and equipment.
The bill “will aid our economy in the years to come,” she said, and “strengthen our commonwealth’s ability to retain jobs and enhance its attractiveness for companies looking for a new home.”
Byron is chairwoman of the House Science and Technology Committee, and has sponsored legislation to prevent identity theft. Also, she has voted for and sponsored several anti-abortion bills.
She also serves on the Tobacco Commission, which distributes economic-development funds to Southside counties and cities.
